What is fibre and why should I switch?
What is fibre broadband?
Fibre broadband is a type of high-speed broadband. It uses fibre optic cables, which are better at transferring data than standard copper cables. And by data, we’re talking about online gaming and streaming films and music. Basically, you can do all the things you love on the internet, just faster.

How does Fibre Broadband work?
It uses a network of fibre optic cables to deliver high-speed data over greater distances. The data travels down the cables at the speed of light (literally). This means you’re more likely to get faster download speeds and a more reliable connection to the internet. FTTP stands for Fibre To The Premises. It’s sometimes known as FTTH (Fibre To The Home), ultrafast broadband, or full fibre broadband. With FTTP, fibre optic cables run right into your home, which means much faster fibre broadband.
The existing copper cables were originally designed to transmit voice/phone calls only, and they don’t align with the evolution of the digital landscape of the future.
FTTP broadband is being rolled out across the Isle of Man and more than 99% of the Island’s premises will have access to fibre broadband by 2024. Use our post code checker to find out if it’s currently available for you, and if it’s not available yet, it will be coming soon so keep checking back.
